Parent Coaching & Advocacy for Families Seeking Guidance and Support
Virtual support for parents navigating the next step
We help parents understand evaluations, navigate school systems, advocate effectively, and build strategies that support their child’s success at home and at school.
You Know Your Child. You Just Need Backup.
Through parent coaching and advocacy, we help families better understand their child’s needs, navigate complex systems, and feel more confident making decisions about support, services, and education.
You shouldn’t have to become an expert in special education, occupational therapy, or child development overnight just to help your child succeed.
How Parent Coaching Can Help
Sometimes parents come to me because they are preparing for an IEP meeting.
Sometimes they’re trying to make sense of an evaluation report.
Sometimes they simply know their child is struggling and want guidance about what support might help.
Our work together may include:
- Preparing for IEP and 504 meetings
- Understanding evaluations and assessment results
- Reviewing recommendations and next steps
- Exploring accommodations and supports
- Providing second opinions
- Helping you communicate effectively with your child's school
- Developing practical strategies you can use at home
- Building confidence in your role as your child's advocate
IEP Support and Advocacy
School meetings can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to understand recommendations, accommodations, and what support your child may need.
We help parents prepare for IEP and 504 meetings, understand their options, communicate effectively with school teams, and advocate with confidence.
The goal is not to tell you what decisions to make, but to help you feel informed, prepared, and confident as you navigate the options available to your family.
Assessments, Evaluations, and Second Opinions
Sometimes parents reach out to Beacon Rehabilitation because they’re trying to make sense of an evaluation, wondering whether additional assessment may be helpful, or looking for a second opinion.
We review previous evaluations, provide standardized assessments when appropriate, and help you better understand recommendations and next steps.
You shouldn’t have to sort through all of that information on your own. Together, we’ll make sense of what’s being recommended and discuss what support may be most helpful for your child and family.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to live in Northern Virginia, Maryland, or DC to work with you?
No. Parent coaching and advocacy services are offered virtually and are available to families regardless of location.
Can you help me understand my child's evaluation?
Absolutely. Many parents come to me because they feel overwhelmed by reports, recommendations, and technical language. I can help you better understand what the information means and what next steps may be helpful.
What if my child doesn't have a diagnosis?
That’s okay. You do not need a diagnosis to receive parent coaching or advocacy support.
Can I work with you if my child is not receiving occupational therapy?
Yes. Parent coaching and advocacy services are available whether or not your child is receiving occupational therapy.
How much do services cost?
Fees vary depending on the type of support needed. During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss your goals and answer any questions you may have about services and fees.
